Retractions, corrections, and raising concerns policy

Retractions, corrections and concerns policy

Región Científica, through its different authorities and collegiate bodies, will consider retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern regarding its published articles according to the guidelines and directives of the Committee on Publications Ethics-COPE. In such scenarios, the regime of rules and control mechanisms for scientific communication will be conditioned to the type, seriousness, and consequences of the inaccuracy detected. The following describes the mechanisms established by Región Científica, which seek to ensure that changes are transparent and that the integrity of the academic record is always guaranteed.

Errata: An errata notice will be published when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the journal after publication that may affect the publication record or the reputation of the authors or the journal but where the academic integrity of the article remains intact. A separate notice will accompany all errors. The notice should provide precise details of the error and the changes that have been made to the paper. In these circumstances:

  1. The article will be corrected.
  2. A note will be added at the end of the article concerning the erratum notice by the editorial team.
  3. A separate erratum or correction notice linked to the corrected version will be published.
  4. The editorial team shall paginate the erratum or correction document with DOI.

Corrections: A correction notice will be produced by the editorial team when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the authors that affects the publication record or the reputation of the authors or the journal but where the scholarly integrity of the article remains intact. A separate notice will accompany all errors. The notice should provide precise details of the error and the changes made to the paper. In these circumstances:

  1. The article will be corrected.
  2. A note will be added at the end of the article referencing the correction notice.
  3. A separate erratum or correction notice linked to the corrected version will be published.
  4. The erratum or correction document will be paginated and with DOI.

When the editorial team has decided to retract an article:

  1. The editorial will add an 'article retracted' watermark to the published version of the article record team.
  2. Article retracted: [article title] shall be placed before the title.
  3. A separate retraction statement, 'Retraction: [article title],' will be published and linked to the retracted article. The journal editor will sign this note.
  4. The retraction statement will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Removal of articles: Removal of an article will be carried out by the editorial team in exceptional circumstances where the problems are severe and cannot be addressed by a correction or retraction notice. This will only occur:

  • Where the article is defamatory or infringes other legal rights.
  • When an article is subject to a court order.
  • The article, if not acted upon, could pose a serious health risk.

If an article is removed, the metadata (authorship and title) will be retained, and the text will be replaced by a document stating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.
